Alderman Eric Schenck since the Canton Motorcycle Club proposed holding events again at Canton Lake, discussions have been held with club representatives. The old motorcycle track still exists and apparently is used by trespassers on all-terrain vehicles. In any event, there is a place to bike.
Schenck said a one-time special event to be held Oct. 27 is being considered. The club would need to lease the property six weeks before the event to prepare for it and two weeks after the event to clean up. Activities would be kept to the back of the property, so it is not near Sebree Road and noise is kept to a back area.
The club will have to provide liability insurance and other costs associated with the event, such as porta-potties, Schenck added.
Alderman Dave Pickel said he favored going forward with the proposed event. He said he tried to assure a woman who lives near Sebree Road efforts will be made to hold noise down. The only way to know if litter and noise problems will occur is by holding the event, he said.
Pickel moved to recommend approval of the event. His motion passed. The measure will go on to council for a final decision.
